I need to replace the steering and water pump on my wagon, and I am wondering if any how can give me instructions on how to do so...How can I replace the water pump and steering pump on my 1996 Volvo 960?the water pump on this car is driven by the timing belt so follow timing belt replacement procedures for this, keeping in mind that you should also replace the belt, idler pulley, tension pulley, and gas-tensioner at the same time.once there the pump is held by 7 bolts and replacement is straightforward[gasket surfaces must be perfectly clean and as this is an interference fit [valve bender] engine the timing belt procedure must critically be adhered too.

as for the power steering foamy fluid means one of two things,

either you have a leak in the system [pump, hoses, rack. causing the pump to cavatate due to low fluid or someone added a fluid that doesn't belong, requiring a flush of the system [once again if fluid was added there is probabley a leak somewhere]

When is it necessary to replace the timing belt and water pump on a 2001 Mazda Protege?

I'm looking to buy a used 2001 Protege. The car is nearing 75000mi, but the owner has not changed the timing belt or the water pump. I found out that it is recommended to change the timing belt at 60000mi, but couldn't find anything on the water pump. Realistically, when would I need to replace these, and any idea how much it would cost?

Thanks! When is it necessary to replace the timing belt and water pump on a 2001 Mazda Protege? That could have either the 1.6 liter or 2.0 liter engine.

My information shows that if you have the 1.6 liter, at least you don't have to worry about bending valves against pistons if the belt breaks -- you'll just be stuck out on the road until you can get it towed and fixed. Not so with the 2.0 which is an %26quot;interference%26quot; engine. So if you DO have the 2.0, pay attention -- you don't want an expensive breakdown! You're on borrowed time at 75K.

For both engines, Mazda recommends that you replace the timing belt every 60K miles. Gates (a major replacement supplier) seems to think these belts will go 105K. Since it's a factory belt, stick with 60K.

As for the water pump, it's often one of those %26quot;while you're already in there%26quot; sort of things when you're doing a timing belt.

60K makes it a tougher call, especially with the better quality of water pump bearings and seals. If your interval were 80K ~ 100K as is true on some cars, I'd say %26quot;go for it%26quot; without blinking. As cheap as it'll be (it's really just the price of the pump), and it was my set of wheels, I'd do it anyway, even at 60K, if it needed to be pulled to do the belt.

the VW water pumps have a plastic blade, over time this blade can become damaged and brake off, normaly this causes an over heating problem, not a squeeling.

the noise is most likely the belt sliping. im not sure of what motor you have im not too informative of the polo's tho there very close if not the same as the VW's

i know the with the 1.8t motor from vw the water pump and timing belt are things you need to keep an eye on. so i'll assume this motor should have the same worries.

if your going to do the water pump be sure to do the timing belt and the tensor also. over time the tensor gets %26quot;loose%26quot; and can cause slack on the belt, if/when that belt slips or brakes your valves WILL hit the pistons causing ALOT of problems. im at almost 70k on my car and im looking to do the timing belt , tensor, and the water pump. all parts are about $225 labor is going to run a few 100 bucks

so id recomend looking into what else should be changed while your doing the water pump, good luckHow much will it cost for a water pump 2 be repaired at a workshop?there is no repairing water pumps ,they do replace them though, with a new pump and a belt your probably looking at around 200 bucks at the least.that's an average price, though id say you,ll probably pay a little more for that one, good luck with it hope this helps. How much will it cost for a water pump 2 be repaired at a workshop?they are useally chuck away jobs now,get a new one from a car accessary shop,if you want to pay loads of money for one go to your main agent.

How to remove a 1983 Chevy Silverado water pump?

My dads needs a new water pump for his '83 Silverado v8, anyone have a DIY or a schematic or know of where I can find one? Maybe someone could tell me how. He's pretty handy with cars just doesn't know what needs to come off and in what order.

-Thanks in advance! How to remove a 1983 Chevy Silverado water pump?remove the fan shroud , then the then belt, then the fan. drain coolant then remove hoses from pump. then the water pump .. it is a 2 hour job at most . can be done as little as a hour if you have the right tools and understand the job.

you will need special too to remove fan. rest is 10mm 13mm , 14mm or 15 mm bolts .. press clamps need pliers or flat screw driver to remove clamps .How to remove a 1983 Chevy Silverado water pump?ok, this is every little step you could imagine, in detail, with reasons for doing it as said,

in the order ive put it down....negligence on my dads part has caused 2 waterpumps to crack in the winter due to lack of antifreeze, because we just put straight water in it, because the radiator is cracked for the same reason as the waterpumps.(but the block luckily hasnt cracked)

remove the fan belt, and lower radiator hose, to drain the radiator, and get the belt outta the way.

if its a smallblock, you remove the fan shroud, remove the fan and fan clutch, then remove the 3 bolts on the left, and 2 bolts on the right, after youve drained the radiator. once youve removed the 5 bolts, pull it out. wrap a cloth around 1 of the 4 studs on the waterpump, and take a pair of pliers to break it free, repeat untill all 4 are loose. remove the studs, and take the pump with you to autozone so you can get a core charge. scrape the mounting surface clean(dont get anything in the block). install the studs, and have a cloth around any stud your working with when you use the pliers to tighten it down(to avoid damaging the the threads.).apply silicon gasket sealer to both sides of the gasket, and put the gaskets on the block. quickly put the pump back on, and put the top bolts in for support. put the other bolts on, and tighten to about 10ftlbs minimum. slide the fan pulley onto the studs, and put the fan back on. put the nuts back on, and tighten as tight as you can get them, itd be terrible for the fan to go through the radiator. put the fan belt back on, put the lower radiator hose back on, and put the fan shroud back on, in that order. wait an hour for the silicon to dry, and fill the radiator with the motor running, and go for a testdriveHow to remove a 1983 Chevy Silverado water pump?alright, sonny boy. locate the water pump.anything attached to it needs to be removed or just plain moved. youll need to remove the belts.hope you have a serpentine belt though.here is what you do.#1familiarize yourself with engine layout and make a map of belt routing.#2remove radiator shroud or half shroud.#3 loosen fan bolts.#4 loosen all belts riding on the water pump pulley, then remove fan and pulley loosened earlier.#5 remove the bolts and studs holdint the waterpump.should be 2 long per side, plus anything bolted to the pump.(you may have to remove power steering pulley to remove bracket, or just loosen backside of bracket and wiggle it to the side if you dont have a powersteering pump puller)#6 remove water pump and remove studs for the fan.assembly is reverse of removal, except you have to install the old studs in the new waterpump, and it helps to use a small amount of gasket sealant to hold the gaskets in place. How to remove a 1983 Chevy Silverado water pump? Its an hour job tops.

Take off the alt. and alt belt, and bracket

    Same with power steering pump

    Take off the fan

Take off the lower rad hose from water pump and the heater hose from water pump.

Take the 4 bolts out of water pump thats holding it to block.

Put new gaskets on with new pump, bolt back in place.

Put the things you removed back on

You will find it is quite a job and may be more than you want to tackle, but the money spent first will tell you whether or not you want to attempt the job before you get halfway through it and decide it is not something you wish to complete.

  • How difficult is it to change a water pump on a Mercury?

I'm buying a motor, but it's been sitting for a year and the water pump needs to be replaced.

How difficult is this to do? I've never worked on a motor before.

The motor is a 40 hp Mercury (2 stroke) from 1997.

What other maintenance should be done? How difficult is it to change a water pump on a Mercury? Its very easy. You unbolt the lower unit and if you can put it in a stand. Unbolt the water pump housing and lift it off the drive shaft. Have the rebuild kit ready. Replace all the pieces the way they came off. Grease the splines on the drive shaft and put it all back together. How difficult is it to change a water pump on a Mercury? That depends... will the motor be attached to a moving boat at the time? How difficult is it to change a water pump on a Mercury? Not a hard job but a few things to be concerned about. The stainless steel bolts in the lower can sometimes be stuck and hard to remove without some type af penetrate oil. Also remember to remove the shift linkage . You might have to shift gears to get it back connected. When installing the rubber inpeller, be sure you turn the shaft in the correct direction when installing to avoid damage when the motor starts up. The water pump tube ( maybe brass )will have to be inserted carfully before the lower will come together for a final fit.

I would open the carb drain screws and run some gas through before starting to remove any old gas or gas residue. Lower unit oil should be checked by removing the lowest drain screw and observing what comes out. If it looks contaminated, Drain and replace. Check again after your first river run or outing to determin if seals are bad. Good luckHow difficult is it to change a water pump on a Mercury?why go to the trouble of doing this yourself? You SHOULD have the manual that you can buy from the dealer(your going to get the parts from him)The total price of having the dealer do this for you should be less than $80.00 and you will receive a warranty on the parts and labour.

Takes a professional about 2 hours to do.How hard is it to replace the water pump on a 1996 Saturn SC1?is it front wheel drive? sideways engine? if it is, then it will be a pain in the a$s!

but get a haynes manual ($15)for the car. it will show you step by step process on how to do it.

good luckHow hard is it to replace the water pump on a 1996 Saturn SC1?I'm not totally certain, but I believe that your water pump is driven by the timing belt. If it is, you should replace the timing belt , the belt tensioner, and the pump. Buy both items from the saturn dealer and have them photocopy the procedure to accomplish your task. Usually, they will cooperate with you without complaint. You probably will need to remove a motor mount and jack the engine up a little with an appropriate hoist. The tricky part is to be sure that you haven't disturbed the engine timing during the installation. This is one reason that it is costly to do the job. If you get the timing wrong, you risk causing engine damage. A seasoned technician can charge more money because of his expertise with this thing. Either way, do yourself a favor and have the cooling system flushed and filled with Mercedes Benz coolant and distilled water. Your entire cooling system and it's expensive components should last longer from it's special chemical formulation. Dex-cool tends to deteriorate more quickly and turn into gel. Good Luck!!How hard is it to replace the water pump on a 1996 Saturn SC1?look here it breaks it down for ya

How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?

My 2005 Civic ran hot during 98 degree weather- yesterday- one time- with a/c running. When I took it in this morning, they could not find a problem but recommended I replace the timing belt and water pump (car has 101,000 miles). Does this sound logical? How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?Page 149 of the owner's manual says to replace the timing belt at 110,000 miles.

Page 160 says the timing belt should be replaced at the intervals shown in the maintenance schedule [on page 149]. But replace the belt at 60,000 miles (100,000 km) if you regularly drive your vehicle in one or more of these conditions:

In very high temperatures (over 110掳F, 43掳C).

In very low temperatures (under 20掳F, 29掳C).

It cost me $300 to have the belt replaced on my 96 Accord at an independent mechanic who specializes with Hondas. Most dealers in my area want anywhere from $650 to $800 to do it.

It won't have any effect on the car running hot so I would suggest replacing the thermostat and inspect all the hoses and flush the cooling system. How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?it does sound logical. you should change the timing belt every 70-80000 miles. your water pump is probably on its way out.How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt? You're overdue. It will run apprx $800 - $1,000

Shop around. How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?$800-1,000? Sure if you go to the Honda stealership to do it. A mechanic should be able to do it for less than $600. When I had my CR-V's timing belt changed, it was $525. So for less than $600, you should still be getting the timing belt, waterpump, seals changed. Also, since they are doing that, they also change your other belts at the same time. By the way, your Civic's timing belt should be changed every 110,000 miles according to Honda so you shouldn't even have to change it just yet.

The overheating could be a bad thermostat. Are your fans working as they should? Do you have a coolant leak? Check your coolant level. There are many things that would cause overheating. If it is your waterpump, then do the entire timing belt service. If not, don't bother with it and save your money unless you want it done now. That's my 2 cents worth. How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?for the shop about $800

    yourself about $100

If you do do it yourself be suree to use a manual(you cann get one from the dealership), and consult someone who has done it before. How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?yes, about 800-900 at the dealer. call all dealers for discount, they usually have like 10% off for timing belt job.How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?Don't listen to everyone who is saying do it yourself. If you cant diagnose those problems yourself you arent ready to replace your timing belt. if you dont have your timing right can will blow your engine within 30 seconds and have to replace the whole thing. You shouldn't need a new belt but if you have a mechanic that is a friend of yours have them take a look at it. Alot of shops try to rip people of and sell them things they dont need, dont fall into their traps.

    Hope this helps!

Some well pumps are constructed so you pour a quart or so of water into the pump and stroke the handle up and down until the water rises in the well.

How much should I expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 2000 Jeep Gr. Cherokee?

My car needs a new water pump and thermostat for a 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo 2wd, inline V6. Was wondering if anyone knows what the going cost of replacing them would be so I don't get ripped off. I know I can buy the parts myself for about 75 bucks at NAPA or any parts store, including gaskets etc. But how much should I expect to pay for the labor? How much should I expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 2000 Jeep Gr. Cherokee? It's too easy not to do this yourself. Contact an independent auto repair shop and ask for a quote. New car dealers are getting $80. - $90. dollars an hour for labor these days. It would take 1.5 -2.0 hours to do this job. Your particular motor is most likely the easiest to work on because there are no accessories to remove to replace the pump. A new pump from Chrysler would cost about 50% more. How much should I expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 2000 Jeep Gr. Cherokee?5 or 6 hundred bucks should be the cost to put it in for you,I wouldn't advise doing it yourself, especially on a Grand Cherokee, otherwise you might have a pile of junk sitting in your garage or driveway. How much should I expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 2000 Jeep Gr. Cherokee? When you go to the shop to have it done, ask them how many hours the job will take according to their list, then look on the wall for the posted labor rate. Do the math, add the cost of the parts, and you've got it. Or just ask for an estimate. That works too.How much should I expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 2000 Jeep Gr. Cherokee?Something to keep in mind. Do not buy the inexpensive pump at the local auto parts store. You can pick up a pump for 30 bucks but they crap out in about 3,000 miles, ask how I know. They have a lifetime warranty so they will give you a new one for free but who wants to put a water pump on every 3,000 miles? I ended up picking one up from the dealer which ran me about $120 but it is still running strong, money well spent in my opinion. new t-stat %26lt;$20. Total cost if you do it yourself will be about $160. Need some RTV and other minor things. Look into a tefba radiator filter, very easy to install and it will protect your radiator from the little pieces of gasket and RTV or any thing else that is in your cooling system. Switch to DISTILLED water mixed with coolant. Just remember that you always have to top it off with distilled water, not tap or hose water.

How do you change the water pump on a 2001 Chrysler 300M?

Weap seal is starting to leak and getting some noise from the water pump. These cars are not as easy as a 1969 Camaro to change the water pump. Can you please give me some guidance? Thx in advance. How do you change the water pump on a 2001 Chrysler 300M?It's easier than you think. Pull front covers off under hood that cover radiator area. One is a plastic guard and under that is the metal support. Pull electric fan out by onbolting it from sides and 2 clips on top and eletrical connector. Now you have room to work. Loosen belts by losening bolt in center of pulley then loosen them by turning adjustment bolt. pull off belts then pull off these pullies with their brackets as one unit off front cover. Take off front covers by taking off 10mm bolts. Crank area has a triangle shaped plate and you can and just loosen bottom 10mm bolt and take off the two above. now slide cover up and you can see water pump. Set cams on their marks for reference, they have a dot on cams and a slot on housings. loosen timing belt tensioner on bottom of engine and evenly pull bolts to get slack on timing belt about one inch should be enough. now you can pull pump off and slide it out being carefull not to let belt slip on cams and lose timing. install the same way, then slowly turn each bolt up on hydrolic tensioner to ease tensioner center pin back to position. make sure timing marks are ok then put everthing back by reverse order. Or you can also pull radiator and bottom crank pulley with a 3 jaw puller and replace belt with new one. This involves pulling out tensioner also. tensioner can be collapsed in vice slowly then use suitable pin to go through cener pin and its case to keep it collapsed, set on new belt and pull pin after tensioner is installed to set belt tension. I hope this helps, Iv'e done this on a few 3.5 litres my self. GOOD LUCK.How do you change the water pump on a 2001 Chrysler 300M?Depends..how patient are you? Good tool selection? In 1969 all water pumps could be seen by opening the hood. can't say that now. Let a good independant shop or a dealer do it. If something goes wrong, it's on their back, not yours.

  • How can you drain a pool without the use of an electric water pump?

I don't want to have to rent or purchase a electric pump to pump the water out of my pool so are there other ways to get the water out besides the obvious (a bucket and alot of people). I am really tight on money so purchasing a device to do the work isn't a real option but I really need to drain the pool without damaging it.How can you drain a pool without the use of an electric water pump?A garden hose will do it. Just make sure that the hose runs down hill at some point to siphon the water out. Make sure that one end is in the pool and one end is at a lower spot, street, yard ,drain wherever. Then suck on that end like a straw. It will work if you got the suction. Once the water starts to drain, it will continue draining until the pool is empty..Make sure your hose is long enough to reach the bottom of the pool once you get the siphoning to start. Also make sure the water has somewhere to go..A pool holds alot of water and could flood someones yard our house easily. How can you drain a pool without the use of an electric water pump?On the off chance that you have a close area that is down hill from the bottom of the pool you could siphon it. Not a likely situation though. Siphoning is using a small hose, garden hose will probably be too big and sucking on the end of the hose to draw water though it. Once it starts flowing if the end is downhill from the bottom of the pool it will drain the pool all on its own.How can you drain a pool without the use of an electric water pump? You can do a back wash, which will drain it.How can you drain a pool without the use of an electric water pump?Hey, your idea about buckets and a bunch of friends sounds like fun. How do I replace the water pump in a 1992 ford escort?

I have a slight idea but I would like to see what steps other people have taken. I have a 1992 ford escort that needs a new water pump, what steps have you taken to replace it?How do I replace the water pump in a 1992 ford escort? In order to replace the water pump in a 1992 Ford Escort, you will need to start by being mechanically inclined, a fairly complete set of metric tools (wrenches/sockets/etc.) - and preferably with a haynes or clymer manual for the vehicle (available at most auto parts stores).

Start by disconnecting and removing the battery. Then (this is from memory) take any other plastic junk off of it that is in the way, put a breaker bar on the spring-loaded accessory belt tensioner, remove the belt, then start taking accessories off (power steering pump, alternator, A/C compressor). You don't necessarily have to remove everything - but it makes it much easier to do, and the few minutes you take putting it back together is worth the extra time.

I generally don't disconnect the A/C - just unbolt it and use some big zip strips to hang it out of the way.

Once you have everything out of your way, the next step is removing the timing belt cover. This is actually a much bigger pain in the a** than it sounds like because for some stupid reason, Ford decided to slide the cover over bolts that stick out too far to allow it to be removed without taking the motor mounts off and jacking the engine up.

The easy workaround is to simply (carefully) break the cover so that you can remove it. I generally just break the bottom part off so it will come out, but I can still put it back over the top when I reassemble (technically it doesn't need to be there at all - at least half the ricers I know have over-sized cam gears that force them to leave it off anyway). It is nice to have it on there to keep crap out of your timing belt, but I mainly just like to have the top covered to keep my fingers out of the moving parts while I am working on other stuff.

Okay - once you have that out of the way, then it is a simple matter of MAKING SURE THE ENGINE IS AT TDC!!!!

I scream this, because it is incredibly important that before you start messing with the timing belt, that you either turn the engine by hand (spark plugs out makes this easier), or hook the battery back up and carefully bump it around until the mark on the crankshaft gear is pointed at the mark.

I usually use some fingernail polish or something to carefully mark the crank and cam positions in case something moves while the belt is off. If you aren't careful, you can mess up the engine timing (even one tooth off will do it). It isn't that hard to get back on a single-cam, but doing it right the first time can save hours of screwing around (on a dual-cam - you have to be VERY careful, but fortunately the escort won't have this).

Now - with the cam and crank at TDC and well marked, loosen the timing belt tensioner, to where it can move. Carefully use a prybar or something to release tension on the belt, tighten the bolt on the tensioner back down, and remove the belt..

Now - you can get at the water pump. Disconnect and remove it, install the new one (key word: new - you don't want to mess with used parts when they are this much work to install) then install the new timing belt (always do both water pump and timing belt at the same time so you don't have to tear it apart twice).

The timing belt should have a TDC mark on it as well - make sure everything is perfectly lined up, and release the tensioner.

It will mess up the timing - so cuss for a minute, and then start playing with it to see where you need to have the gears set when you release it to get them to both point at TDC when the belt is tensioned (again, one tooth off will prevent the engine from running correctly - this is the one part of the job that you do not want to half-azz)..

Finally, reassemble - say a little prayer to the deity of your choice, and fire it up!How do I replace the water pump in a 1992 ford escort?I got mine replaced at Evans Tires. They did it very fast same day. You can call them in advance to have them order the part so it can be there when you take your car in.

I would not risk having someone who says they know what they are doing start %26quot;fixing%26quot; things a shop is best and try to go to the same auto shop for all your needs.

Don't drive your car much you can blow your engine on a bad water-pump.How do I replace the water pump in a 1992 ford escort?if you're going to do it yourself first I recommend getting the book for the car sometimes the library will have them..you also want to be careful when changing the water pump because your timing belt is hooked up to the water pump. If you misalign the camshaft or the crankshaft pulleys or turn them independently when the belt is off you can cause damage to the head of the engine (very important: your timing will be off..you don't want that). To start with though, you will have to take off your accessory belt and the accessory crank pulley, then take off the timing belt cover and use the crank shaft pulley to line up the marks that are on the pulley and the engine (on both the crankshaft pulley and the cam shaft pulley) carefully take the timing belt off (replace the timing belt and the timing belt tensioner..trust me it'll be worth it). You're going to have to drain the antifreeze before you take the water pump off. (I would also replace the thermostat because its cheap and you already have the fluid out) The install is pretty much the opposite. (again make sure the marks line up on the cam and crank pulleys and don't turn them independently when you're putting the belt back on) (short answer: get the book and/or have someone that's done it before help) when your done you can say you did it :)

How do you know the water pump on your car is gone out?

I broke down the other day and my top radiator hose popped of due to alot of pressure.I put it back on and seen the car wasn't running hot. I drove to the Gas station not even 2 min down the road and pulled over, right when I get into the gas it starts to rattle really loud!!But the car wasn't running hot at all.Now that I hav changed the thermostat its running hot and has a loud rattle going.I was told the water pump went out and the rattle was the bearing inside that broker lose and moving around. Please help, any advice I would greatly appericate. How do you know the water pump on your car is gone out? They may be right whoever told you that... Most time the water pump will leak also. but... If the hoses keep coming off whats building the pressure to pop it... Did you put the thermostat in correctly? I've had times when the thermostat I bought was bad to begin with... The rattle from the bearing would make sense too though so I'm going to assume that they are correct and you'll have to replace it...How do you know the water pump on your car is gone out?you should see coolant seeping from it. they have weep holes on top %26amp; bottom. also check that your fan is working properly. How do you know the water pump on your car is gone out?it will make a noise you will also have a water leak you should also have someone to check your thermastat could also have ratiator stoped up get some one to check all of that for you i hope i was able to help you linda1How do you know the water pump on your car is gone out?Usually, when a water pump 'goes out', two things can happen. 1) the seal fails (usually due to the second thing) and water drips or runs out the front. 2) the bearing goes out and you'll sometimes get some noise.

When the coolant goes out and gets low, the boiling can push the water to the top of the radiator like you saw. The system is really out of water and your sensor has no hot water on it and does not always read hot or overheated. Driving on can cause the crankshaft and connecting rod bearings to fail because the extreme over temp of your engine caused the lube oil to become too thin to provide adequate lubrication. Basically, you 'cooked' your engine.

What should have happened was to let the car sit until it cooled down completely, then add coolant back to the proper level after you did the hose repair. Start it and let it warm, then recheck the level of coolant, it will usually change and need more. How do you know the water pump on your car is gone out?I suspect a pocket of air is trapped in the upper portion of your cooling system.

When your radiator hose broke, you obviously lost most if not all of your coolant.

When the coolant was replaced, you now possibly have an air pocket inside your engine. There should be an air bleeder valve near the top of your engine cooling system.

Open this valve slightly to allow the trapped air to escape. Close the valve when coolant comes out of the valve. If no coolant comes out, add more coolant to the cooling system until coolant comes out of the bleeder valve. Then close the valve. Repeat this process after a few days.

Signs of a bad water pump.

    Overheating obviously

Coolant leaking from the water pump.

With the engine off, see if you can rock the water pump pulley from side to side. If you can rock the pulley from side to side, the water pump bearings are worn out or damaged and the pump needs to be replaced. How do you know the water pump on your car is gone out?yes it is the water pump. change it and have the whole system flushed

What is involved in replacing a water pump in a 2002 Chrysler Sebring?

The dealership quoted me like 400 dollars in repairs using almost 10 hours of labor JUST for a frickin' water pump. I haven't had time to actually look at the car, but surely I can change a water pump in about 2. Anyone have ANY idea how this goes? I've changed pumps in older cars you could walk around in the engine compartment, but surely I shouldn't have to pull the engine to replace a common part. What is involved in replacing a water pump in a 2002 Chrysler Sebring?this depends on if it is a 3.2 or a 3.5 ohc. if it's a 3.5 then yes that is reasonable...as the water pump is driven by the cam belt. If it's a 3.2 then no...done both of them...the 3.2 is much easier. If it's a 2.7b then I'm not sure.

  • How hard is it to change a water pump on a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am with the 3.3 Liter motor?

I have coolant leaking out and i'm pretty sure now that it is the water pump. Question can water pumps leak even if the cars not running?Like a steady drip every two seconds? Forming a decent puddle after awhile, but when running the pump is'nt making any abnormal noises is that normal? Is there other clues to positively know the pump is bad? I cant believe how hard a job it looks like it would be to replace it there is no room! Anybody with some helpful how to's? how about an estimate on how much a shop would charge to do it?How hard is it to change a water pump on a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am with the 3.3 Liter motor?Put a jack under the oil pan with a 2x4 between the pan and the jack face. You will have to take the serpentine belt loose, the idler is below the power steering pump, and then support the engine on the jack and remove the passenger side motor mount. There is an aluminium L-shaped bracket to remove and then a cast iron piece with 4 bolts holding it to the engine. Remove also the alternator, as it will get in the way. Once the motor mount is out you can remove the serpentine belt. Now you will need to remove the bolts holding the stamped serpentine pulley to the water pump, I believe there are 4 of them and I think they are 8 mm. You cannot, however, take the pulley out until the water pump is off. So now you have to take the bolts out of the water pump and pull it out, clean the mating surface for the new pump, and reinstall, just make sure to put the serpentine pulley over the water pump before you try to put the pump back in.

On a side note, before you go apeshit with all of this, pull the iginition module and coil pack mounting bracket off the front of the engine and check the bypass hose to see if it has a hole in it before you go right to the water pump. I had this go on the wife's car, and overzealous idiot that I am, I just assumed it was a water pump. What kind of water pump and filter can my Betta fish tolerate?

I have a lovely Betta and I put him in a 12 gallon tank - more room than he needs but I want him to be happy. Obviously, tank maintenance is a concern of mine. I want a pump and filter that will not move the water too much for him and allow him freedom of movement, but I just can't tell what pump and filter would be right or how much they would cost. What kind of water pump and filter can my Betta fish tolerate? If he is all that you have in the tank then you won't need a whole lot of filtration. Which is great because you want a pretty calm situation for a Betta. You could use a sponge bio-filter that is driven by an air pump, or you could use a small power driven in tank filter. Marineland makes a line called Duetto Filters. Their Mini filter is adjustable for flow rates as low as 2 and as high as 40 gallons per hour. I think this would be a very good filter for your application. I have used Duettos before myself and they are dependable, easy to maintain and do a pretty decent job. If you can't find one locally, they are available at http://www.DrsFosterSmith.com and cost about $20.What kind of water pump and filter can my Betta fish tolerate?lowWhat kind of water pump and filter can my Betta fish tolerate? The best filter for a Betta tank (or at least one of the best) is a simple sponge filter driven by a gently bubbling air pump or an air stone. Some of the advantages of this sort of filter are, the air flow can be adjusted to suit the water level and surface conditions, if you have more than one tank you can have extra sponges %26quot;seasoning%26quot; so you will always have a cycled filter, and they are inexpensive and reliable. Some popular brands are %26quot;Jungle Labs%26quot; and %26quot;Hydro-sponge%26quot;. They are both quite versatile and should you wish to use one in a larger tank the Hydro-sponge can also be driven by a powerhead. Also maintenance is as simple as rinsing the sponge in some of the aquarium water while doing routine small water changes.

Some of the disadvantages are that really quiet air pumps can be a little expensive or that less expensive air pumps can be a little noisy.Either way this sort of set-up will probably be the least expensive.

How hard is it to change a water pump on a Honda 50 hrs outboard 4 stroke?

It was supossed to have been changed last year but my alarm keeps going off and the temp light is on and the stream of water coming out is a trickle. If the engine was supposed to have a new one a year ago then you have a straight forward job to do, and you knew it was due.

If the engine is fifty hours old then this should be the first service/tune from the dealer. Without knowing what size the engine is it is pointless suggesting more at this point.

Water pumps are not hard to do, and should be done every year, or two years at the most. The leg should be dropped every year as this will allow this service, and keep the bolts etc. free and allow you to examine for deterioration in out of sight places....

You should have a manual, if you do not then buy one - it is cheap insurance and you will always have it to refer to for any niggling questions.

Good luck. How hard is it to change a water pump on a Honda 50 hrs outboard 4 stroke?my advice to you is, go to your local library and look it up in the section where they have the Chilton type books, this will give you exact things to do in detail so you don't accidentally break something or get stuck....they are usually pretty informational..that's what I do when I need info..I bring a pen and a note book to write stuff down...most even have part numbers for you...

I know you can do it and save tons of money too, plus at least you know the job WILL be done right!
