99 dodge intrepid need to set the gears, timing chain after replacing the water pump?

replaced water pump and marked timing chain. Now how to line up the timing chain to the gears?99 dodge intrepid need to set the gears, timing chain after replacing the water pump?there's a notch on the gears that lines up with a notch on the block, you need to get a repair manual though for picture of the line up because its hard to explain it on here, and it has to be on no-1 top dead center, you can do this by putting the harmonic balancer on for a few minutes, but you need the repair manual for the pic of it,good luck.99 dodge intrepid need to set the gears, timing chain after replacing the water pump? You need to bring the #1 piston to top dead center then you should have a mark on the cam shaft that needs to align with the #1.Once everything is align the distributor rotar shaft will be pointing at the #1 spark plug on the distributor cap and the harmonic balancer will be at TDC.Get a repair manual it will show you how to align

ne everything.

If the engine was not disturbed you may be able just to put the belt back to your marks but if it doesn't fire (start up) you will need to tear it all apart and align everything99 dodge intrepid need to set the gears, timing chain after replacing the water pump? You need to get a manual that has the timing chain diagram. These aren't hard to do and they are even easier to screw up. If you have the timing only two teeth off you will bend valves when you turn it over so you need to be exact and correct the first time. I highly recommend using some sort of diagram. I still do after doing them for twelve years and it helps big time. Also there are plated links on the chain that should aid in the timing alignment. Pay attention to where they go. Good luck.
