How much should it cost to have a water pump replaced?

I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am. And I was told by a mechanic that my water pump is going and it need replacement. How much should this procedure cost on avarage?How much should it cost to have a water pump replaced?Ok how do you know it is going.

Here is 3 things to check

#1 is it leaking water out of the bottom?

#2 squeeze the top hose( after it has reached operating temp) and squeeze the hose. As you release it you will feel a rush of water

#3 Look at the pully and see if it is wobbling?

#4 Is it over heating( more likly a theromostate)?



If these things are NOT present your water pump is ok.

To replace it is a fairly easy job. About 1 hour
