How much to replace a water pump in an old car?

Just found out my water pumps leaking. I put water in and it's a steady drip/ pour from under my car.

Its a 1988 Golf. I was told the water pump would be about as much as a new car.

The light's been blinking for a couple weeks but I was told it might be a faulty sensor. Sorry Im totally clueless when it comes to cars.

How far can I drive if it's filled up but leaking steadily? How much to replace a water pump in an old car?You really need to have the water pump replaced ,If you don't ,the water pump could lock up causing it to throw the belts which could screw the radiator up or even blow a head gasket from being to hot.If you change it $75,bucks if a shop does it $200.bucks.How much to replace a water pump in an old car?http://www.waterpumpwarehouse.com/servlet/the-1431/Volkswagen-Golf-1.8-85/Detail

You can get a new one here for 20 bucks. Depends on whether or not you can do it yourself. How much to replace a water pump in an old car?Its about $200 to replace the pump. You can drive it till it blows up. Could be 1 mile could be 100 miles. DO not wait the longer you wait the more likely it will fail and that could cost you in the thousands to fix.How much to replace a water pump in an old car?A cooling system leak can cause irreversible engine damage due to overheating. I doubt it would cost as much as a new car. Leaking cooling systems pollute the ground, which isn't good either.

Best wishes to you.How much to replace a water pump in an old car?For God's sake just put a waterpump in.Less than a dozen bolts and pop the puppy out.geeze
