http://www.autozone.com

or the website the makers of BMW.?

autozone usually has all the information you need including installation and removal photos...plus the unit and cost so you know what price you'll be paying to repair it yourself.Does anyone know how to, or point me in the right direction for changing 1997 BMW 540i water pump?I'd stop at your local public library and copy the procedures from the motors and chiltons manual. By the way, the 525 had a timing belt and interference type engine which suffers damage if the belt breaks. Back then you had to change the belt every 60,000 miles, so you might want to change your timing belt at the same time you do the water pump.
