How do i know if i need a motor or a water pump for my 2001 chevrolet malibu. makes a clicking sound underhood?

when i check the water there is a substance that appears to be oil that is why i think i need a water pump and there is also a loud clicking sound under the hood. could it be lifts? How do i know if i need a motor or a water pump for my 2001 chevrolet malibu. makes a clicking sound underhood? The waterpump in this assembly would not allow oil into the system . Most likely is oil coming from the head gasket by the number 1 cylinder . very common usually due to a build up of sludge from dex cool (huge gm problem) . good news you may like to hear though . If you look up the recall dates for gm dex cool vehicles they are repairing most of these for free , half cost , or part cost . so look it up online or go to your dealership near you i am sure they are more then happy to help

Oh yeah if you have coolant in your oil it will thin oil out and cause the ticking in your liftersHow do i know if i need a motor or a water pump for my 2001 chevrolet malibu. makes a clicking sound underhood?oil in the coolant isn't a water pump problem necessarily . so many possible answers: sounds like an overheat occured. the head gasket seal was breached, mixing coolant and oil. the overheat also caused a valve train malfunction, possibly a scorched lifter, rod, valve. good luck
