How pump irrigation water from a lake ?

I ran pipes from my pump to the lake and now my pump dont suck up any water.Pump works it almost brand new and I have foot valve at end of the pipe in the lake. What im I doning wrong here? How pump irrigation water from a lake ?the pump needs to be at the lake it cant pull the water up it needs to push it, up

or fill the pipe with water firstHow pump irrigation water from a lake ?that length of pipe from your pump to the pond must be completely filled with water first ! ( primed) thats the suction side. u need to install a check valve in the pond so water from the pipe cant go back into the pond so install check valve then add fill valve next to pump

you will need to prime it from another source or B ))) have ur pump lower then the end of pipe in the pond and let gravity fill the pipeHow pump irrigation water from a lake ?A pump can only lift water the equivalent of about 34 feet. If your suction line is too long, the pressure drop in the suction line can be sufficient to be equal to lifting water 34 feet. If that is the case, your pump will cavitate and not pump.

If the length of your suction line is not the problem then you need to be sure the suction line and the pump are full of water otherwise it can't start the pumping process.

Have you checked to see if the foot valve is holding. Also it might be stuck closed.

The best type of pump to use for your application is a self priming pump like those used on pools and hot tubs. They are made to prime themselves from a reservoir built into the pump. How pump irrigation water from a lake ?pumps are designed to push, not pull.I bet if you reverse and put the pump at the lake then the pipe one will see a dramatic change.

Imagine that
