Will a leaky water pump affect how a car starts?

It's a 2002 Olds Alero, Ecotec L4 2.2Liter Engine. I THINK the water pump is leaking coolant (It might be coming from somewhere else, but it seems logical from where I've been able to narrow down where the leak is coming from) and lately it's been starting quite rough, although once is starts, it runs quite well aside from the coolant leak. Will a leaky water pump affect how a car starts? The answer is NO.

but you do need to replace it.

Does your car overheats?

If it doesn't, it will!

The repairs are very costly once you damage the engine because of overheating. Will a leaky water pump affect how a car starts?jujubeWill a leaky water pump affect how a car starts? If the coolant is leaking down on the crank or cam sensor..I amsure it would create a starting issue..once it is running the heat would dry the sensor off..hence it runs betterWill a leaky water pump affect how a car starts? If your electrical wiring or plug wires are getting wet, yet it could affect how it starts...Will a leaky water pump affect how a car starts?Do NOT drive until you have this car examined!!!! Right now, it might be a small problem. But, if the engine is losing coolant, eventually you risk over-heating the VERY expensive engine parts. You risk ruining the WHOLE engine. Watch for leaks on the ground. If there are none, you are burning the coolant through an intake manifold gasket leak. You may still get warranty coverage from GM. They have a mammoth lawsuit aginst them for the improper chemical formulation of Dex-Cool coolant. SEE, %26quot;GM litigation%26quot; web site. If you can catch this in time, you might only need a replacement intake manifold gasket. If you wait too long, you may need a whole new engine. Nip it in the BUD!!!! Good Luck!!!!Will a leaky water pump affect how a car starts? The coolant may be from your water jacket being pressurized by a leaking head gasket and then it follows the path of least resistance until you can see it somewhere on the motor.Take the radiator cap off, fill the radiator to the top and start the motor. If the head gasket is blown you will see a lot of bubbling or if it is bad the water will piss out.Get someone to gently press the accelerator while you check the radiator.Don't run the car for too long before you do the check or as you know the coolant will be very hot.Take care around any moving parts while the motor is running and good luck.
